Today we are spending the afternoon in the beautiful Arezzo. Arezzo is very very old, it dates back, or portions of the city do, to 5th century BC. It is a small city but the old town is quite large with at least 20 churches, some medieval, some Tuscan Ghotic and some even dating back to the early 12th century and still without a facade. Arezzo is one of the richest cities in Tuscany and is built in a typical Italian fashion, the city is full of narrow streets that go up and down. It is full of small shops, and offices and a beautiful main street that is wide and spacious. There are a lot of small and large squares and fountains and flowers and fruit trees. There is a massive park behind the cathedral overlooking the Tuscan country side. You might know or have seen Arezzo if you watched Life is Beautiful, or heard of a famous Italian painter named Michelangelo who was born not that far away from Arezzo. Beautiful town – I think we are coming back for a second look tomorrow.
