Some 60,000 people live in historical Venice, while Venice proper houses some 270,000 people. Historical Venice is built on wooden piles which were driven into the seabed and unto which the foundations of the buildings were build on. There are some 486 bridges in Venice we walked on 29 of them. Everything here is different, there are so few open spaces and even fewer trees. Most of the streets and sidewalks are very narrow, some less than 2 feet wide and water and canals are absouletly everywhere. This really is one of those cities that you have to see and experience, it is just that unique and that different. Venice is a lot bigger than I imagined, with a lot more sidewalks than canals – a common misconception as it turns out.
