Our schedule is quite busy for today so we had to decline a visit with Papa Francesco at the Vatican, but we did send our €88 towards the church to get a line up free tickets to see the Vatican Museum. The moment we got off the bus we were happy that we got the advanced tickets. We walked past what seemed to be a 1 km line up. We walked right up to the cashier to get our vouchers, our audio guides and we simply just got in. It was unbearably hot and humid today and I honestly don’t understand why anyone would simply not spent the extra €4.00 per ticket to save themselves at least 2 or 3 hours of waiting in the sweltering heat. We have been to the Louvre a couple of times and to other famous museums in London and Paris, so we were prepared for the splendour of unimaginable proportions – and then we were surprised even more. While it may be good to be a prince or a king or even an emperor – it certainly always is better to be the Pope!
Looks nice. I’ve (we’ve) never actually been into the Vatican City. Too cheap and too many tourists! 😉
You are right I can’t believe how many tourists are here. We have been here over a year now so we are counting ourselves as locals! 🙂
Oh and btw – by “too cheap” in my previous comment, I obviously meant WE are too cheap. Not the price of entry (which wouldn’t make any sense 😉 )
The best scam going is the pre-sale tours that you get asked about 400 times per minute before you actually get to the door. Our tickets with audio guide and advanced no line up option were €88 for the four of us. €16 of that was the convenience no line up fee and I think audio was about 5 or 7 each or something close to it.
