Today is a huge, exciting day in our household: it’s the first day of school! Evelina is starting her last year of elementary school at Mount Pleasant and Boris is starting high school at Scona. Where does the time go? After a pretty smooth morning and a typical yeg commute, they were dropped off. I […]
Stiftskeller St. Peter (803) – Salzburg, Austria
According to some sources, including the restaurant itself of course, the Siftskeller has been serving food since 803, making it the oldest restaurant in Europe. Not 1803 – that’s not a typo. Eight-oh-three. Although we can’t personally verify this data, we can certainly attest to the quality of food and service. We started with a […]
The back of the truck
Well, just to prove that our Italian groceries did indeed come from the back of a truck, here are the photos to illustrate. Basically, there was a small group of people that assembled in this parking lot. For any of you that lived through or are familiar with the days of PRL this really felt […]
Snow alert!!
At 700 meters (altitude) the weather can be unpredictable. As we took a turn on the way home from Salzburg, we were greeted with our first snow sighting of the season. This was minutes after we crossed back into Germany. Pretty, but no thank you!!
New old car
Any guesses on our new ride?
Delivery
Remember how proud I was about getting those awkward IKEA chairs home? Well, that was nothing compared to these two women getting 5 years’ supply of Coke into their tiny car. I wish I could’ve stuck around to see it happen and document it for you all!
Parking lot
This is the “parking lot” at Evelina’s school. The school is grades 1 through 4 and there are VERY few kids that are dropped off and picked up by parents. Evelina rides her scooter every day and parks it here too. Without locks. She told me she wouldn’t enjoy going to school in Germany if […]
Something to look forward to!
I cannot tell you all how excited we are to be seeing our good friends Henrik et al next week. We haven’t seen them in … well …. about a year I guess but we have so many years to make up for at this point! All I have to tell you is get ready […]
Bringing patio furniture home like a boss.
IKEA
I think there is a strike at IKEA today. No furniture for you!!
First day of school
Today marked another milestone: first day of school in Germany! You may or may not be surprised to hear that both children were EXTREMELY excited for this new adventure. They spent the weekend organizing supplies. Boris even went as far as to claim he was “sick and tired of relaxing”. After school, the two of […]
Topless
Finally some sun!
What to buy in Poland
I could not believe the prices for things in Poland, especially “luxury” items. That being said, there is still much that can be purchased. Especially these Made in Poland dealies.
