Like yesterday, first thing in the morning, we went to see a bit of Rome, but this time on the other side of the river. We went to St. Peter’s Basilica fully expecting to see thousands of people lined up trying to get in and see the house of the richest god there ever was. […]
Cedar Forest
On the outskirts of Bonnieux village is a massive cedar forest that began with trees imported from North Africa during the Napoleonic era. It sits opposite Mont Ventoux, know as the windy mountain where winds in the summer reach 320km/h but on average over 240 days out of the year go at 90+ km/h. We decided to […]
Paris – Shopping
Today is an easy and relaxing day. First, we sleep in, so we were off to a great start. Once we got organized and managed to get to the centre we decided to go shopping. First stop at the Louvre then to one of favourite stores BHV then a stroll through Marais for some sweets […]
Real Snow
Today we have our first taste of what is coming and will be here for the next 6 months – snow and frost and lots of both. Luckily it did not get too cold quite yet but we all know it is coming. Until it all melts it will be white and pretty and clean […]
3 Hour Cake
We are expecting some company tomorrow, so Monika offered to make a cake for tomorrow. She did not realize that this cake recipe takes 3 hours to get ready. Nonetheless this one turned out awesome and it was well worth the wait.
The Spoils
A quick trip around the neighbourhood with a shield and a sword and a smile yielded some great returns. Tomorrow we are going to buy a shed for the back yard to put it all in.
The Great Pillage
Today is Halloween – it is great many things to many different people. For ghosts and goblins and witches and monsters it is time to freely roam the streets. For little Vikings at heart it is time to get out and liberate the neighbourhood of some candies and for the dentists it is time to pick up […]
Going on Three
What better way to spent the weekend than doing little to nothing at all. Today is one of those days, we were all waiting with anticipation for 4:30p.m. to have dinner at Thanh Thanh. This is one of two restaurants that we really missed when we were in Europe. On the agenda today is a […]
Masters Class
I finally got around to getting these uploaded, converted and here they are for you to enjoy. While at Villa Medici, this was the Masters of Piano graduating class, with formalities of the evening being done, everyone was a lot more relaxed and the music they got out of that wooden box with strings and […]
Home Alone
It is 10:30pm. The owner of the villa is staying in the private part of this complex behind a big iron gate, in a huge manicured private garden in a smaller private villa more suitable for a family. Alexandro the caretaker and Fiona the lady who makes breakfast sleeps next to the kitchen which is […]
Imperial Invasion
At the Imperial Castle, in the lower gardens – I have no ideal what this is…. Red Bull is doing something in town this weekend, perhaps this Cos play has something to do with it.
Arb’Aventure Videos
The two young ladies are taking the zip line at the end of the challenging obstacle course adventure, or as they see it, Hunger Games obstacle course.
The Art of Packing
This is how you get 12 suitcases and 2 bows into a car with room to spare. That is one very loaded car!! The drive should be fun..
11th Hour
We are at T – 15 hours before we pack the car and the family takes the train for the trip to Frankfurt. Family from Poland stops by for a quick visit to say hello! We send the kids off to town in the early afternoon to visit at least one museum, and to have as much […]
Insanity Continues
This again will be filled under “Christ what were we thinking” category which is the predominant theme of ours when we go out to eat. After a wonderful dinner at the Golden Horn we rolled out of the restaurant, and rolled down the hill from the castle side, across the main square and to 4D our favourite […]
Around Nuremberg
It is Saturday today which means it is our last chance to go to the shops and buy anything we still might need. Our goal for today was to get some suitcases and a poster tube. We did not find a suitcase we liked, we forgot about the poster tube but we bought a few […]
Jumping for Joy
While we were tying to get the car packed the kids were enjoying themselves on the trampoline – I think they are happy that we are finally going home. Except we are not, as we still have some stops planned on the way home.
When in Bruges
Belgium is humid. When in Bruges it is easy to channel Monika Geller, which is what Anna is demonstrating here!
Crêpes
For a treat, after climbing some trees and stopping to smell the hydrangeas we drove back to Dieppe to have crepes, exactly at the same spot where we had them on the first day. A couple stops at a chocolate shop and a bakery too were on the agenda. Crepes are great but nothing beats […]
Exercise Park
In the park behind the Church of St. Ouen church is where all the action is. Great church, beautiful park, a fountain, a pond, a tennis table, a playground for kids, bachelorette party meeting place and an exercise park. Since this trip is all about collection experiences, we thought we would give it a try. We entered the […]
Something in Pink
On the other side of the Church of St. Ouen park is a beginning of rowdy to be bachelorette party. It starting slow but I bet it will be a barrel of fun.
Amsterdam Morning
There are a lot of interesting things to see in Amsterdam. Amsterdam is perhaps not the city best know for its landmarks like Paris or London but Amsterdam has its own jewels and charm. Amsterdam is the capital city of the most populous city within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its status as the Dutch capital […]
Van Der Valk
We are staying just outside Amsterdam. We had a choice of staying in a nicer hotel and driving to Amsterdam or staying in a worse hotel and not driving. We decided to stay in a nicer hotel that is quiet and close to the city rather than staying in Amsterdam. I think this will be […]
The Netherlands
The adventure continues. Today we are saying good bye to our great hosts the Mozejkos and setting off for The Netherlands.
Goodbye Friends
Today we said our goodbyes to our dear friends Mozejkos, whom we had a pleasure of seeing 4 times on this trip. Twice we were guests at their home and twice they came to visit us in Nuremberg. We always have a great time with Mozejkos and we are already missing them. Thank you again […]
Summer in Denmark
The weather forecast has changed from sunny with a chance of showers to pouring rain with a chance of deluge. It was essentially raining sideways for most of the afternoon. Despite our rain gear, by the time we walked from the Little Mermaid to the shops, we were absolutely soaked to the bone. The only saving grace was […]
Shakisha
We are in Copenhagen. We are trying new names at Starbucks – just because. This is a first attempt at Sharkeisha.
Storming Odense
Our second part of the day was filled with a trip to the old town Odense. Even though we just had lunch we made a quick stop for a Danish hot dog and of course more Danish soft serve ice cream. We wondered around for the afternoon and got home just in time to make […]
Diabetes Special
This post should really come with its Health Warning – this treat, which is about the size of a small polar bear, is a lot easier to order than it is to finish. Vaffelhuset is the famous ice cream shop in Kerteminde. During summer it is open until 11 pm. Day or night, rain or […]
Hello Odense
We have arrived! It was a nice drive and relatively uneventful one as well. 900 km, 18 construction zones, 3 accidents, luckily on the other side of the road, 3 stalled vehicles and one road side fire, also on the other side of the road and one OMG slam the brakes emergency stop.
Pit Stop
Gas, bathroom, coffee, tea and delicious ice cream. Our car is so overloaded we have to drive relatively slowly which is fine as we are doing great.
Friends
We don’t get to see Volker and Kasia very often. Kasia is always either in Vienna or Warsaw and we are almost never here on the weekends. Today we finally got to sit down with both of them for a nice meal on the balcony. The kids, all 3 of them, were not interested in hanging […]
Lauren has landed
The plane came in 9 min late. Now it needs to taxi, then it is passport control, customs, luggage and then the walk to the arrivals lounge. Here we all are!
Vineyard Tour
This morning after breakfast we met up with Astrid and Klaus and their friends Lotta and Daniella. On the agenda for todday was a walk though the vineyards from Eller to Bremm which are nested along the Mosel River. These two small villages are separated by about 2.3km from where we parked to where we sat […]
More Beach Time
The sea is quite calm today so we all got out for a swim to the huge floaties that are set up off the pier and the beach for all hotel guests to play. The beach is private so only people from the resort can go there and for those lazy enough to walk the […]
Saturday Bazar
No visit to Antalya would be complete without a visit to a traditional bazar which is where a lot of people come to shop for everything from fruits and vegetables and spices to clothing, purses, glasses, dishes and just about everything else you can imagine. There is a lot of yelling and haggling. Just about everything you […]
Sand Castles
After a rather disappointing dinner at the Ottoman restaurant, mainly because of bad service, we set off once again for a bit of a stroll across the beach. Not only to take in the great views but also to enjoy a bit of the summer breeze coming off the Mediterranean, perfect for cooling off after a […]
Fish For Dinner
Today for dinner, instead of doing the usual buffet, we are going to the seafood restaurant on the beach. There are two restaurants there which we have access to, one is a seafood place and the other one is an Ottoman Restaurant with a traditional Turkish food, which we are set to try tomorrow. There […]
Antalya – We Arrived
No trip of ours is without its little adventures. We arrived in Antalya just around 7 am as scheduled. With nothing to declare we walked out of the airport in no time into sweltering heat of 28C. We were informed that our shuttle will take us to the hotel as per our reservation. We boarded […]
World Cup Craziness
Germany has gone crazy! We can’t think of a better place to be right now than here in Nuremberg, Germany. Everyone is celebrating, no one is getting any sleep – people are going absolutely crazy!!!! What a party this is going to be!!!
Meanwhile in Wurzburg
It is summer! No matter where we go there is a bachelor or bachelorette party. Evelina got to participate in one when we were in Wurzburg today. The premise of these parties is as follows. The bride or groom to be is the object of constant ridicule in public as his entourage is getting drunk. He […]
Getting Robbed
As tourists, we are usually very conscious of our surroundings. There are places in Europe where you see the pick pocket warnings – mostly in larger cities around the main tourists sites. Getting robbed is not something anyone wants to experience, getting robbed willingly is a different story all together. This brings me up to Caffe […]
Venice on Foot
Our arrival in Venice took a bit of time this morning but our departure was a lot more organized. We had a great time here and we are so glad that we came here for a second look. After the Basilica and the Bell Tower we slowly started heading back to the car, visiting 100 […]
The Slow Race
We are going to Ai Casoni which is the same Agriturismo we stayed at when Anna’s parents were here. It is a lovely little place with amazing food, hosts and atmosphere. Last time we were here we came from Ljubljana- today we drove right from Nuremberg. As we planned our way down, part of the […]
Metz is Wonderful
It is now 7:30 pm and this concludes our exploration of Metz for today. We have seen most of the historic city, we have been shopping twice, we have been to the hotel to relax twice and we sat down for a small coffee break, some crapes and a drink. Metz is very small, about […]
The Esplanade
The Esplanade is a giant park in the heart of Metz. It is bordered by the courthouse, the Arsenal, the Templar chapel and the Basilica of Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains and it overlooks the valley of the Mosellle. This garden mainly consists of linden and chestnut trees with a large fountain in the centre and a lot of flowers. The World […]
World Cup
Today is a big game – Germany vs. Ghana. We have set up a soirée with Kasia and Volker to watch the game in German at their house. We started off with a nice dinner and some wine then more vine and some desserts. Everyone has World Cup fever and we are not different. It was […]
Back in Town
We are back in town from our trip across Italy. Today we are getting out to see Kasia and Volker. Kasia is so involved in the metro project in Warsaw that we almost never get to see her. We have a bit more luck with Volker who works only a short walk away from us. […]
Photobomb Phun
We interrupt this Cinque Terre expedition for a brief moment to have a bit of fun. The kids did not even have gelato or cappuccino yet. Imagine that!
La Picea
There are 47 restaurants in Levanto, we found this one – La Picea, on the outskirts of the old town – and it just happens to be THE number one rated restaurant in the city. This place is mostly for takeouts but there are some tables and chairs for people like us. It is all […]
