This morning, we set off to do a bit of grocery shopping at our favourite store – METRO. When we got out onto the main road, there was police on every intersection, roads were closed off as were the turn off lanes to go left or right, businesses were shut down as well. We had no clue what was going one. On the way back home instead of the usual 15 min short drive we had to circle the city on the highway to get home. Later on we found out that on the new tram line that is being built to Metro a digger found a 250 kg WWII bomb. That was yesterday, and today they were diffusing it and removing it. Two months ago at a construction site near the main train station, 10 min walk from our home, they dug out a 450 kg bomb. Call Before You Dig – has an entirely different meaning here. Pictures are from the paper – no tourists allowed.
PS. In other news, someone found a pot hole in Nuremberg and in shame, quickly covered it up with a hat.
This is the larger 450 kg train station bomb.
There are not enough hats in China to cover up all the Potholes in Edmonton.
Front page news here. They really don’t know what professional potholes look like.
