Fribourg is located on both sides of the river Saane, and is an important economic, administrative and educational centre on the cultural border between German and French Switzerland. Fribourg also has one of the most prestigious universities in Switzerland.  Its Old City, is one of the best maintained in Switzerland. There is a very old funicular that you can take to the old town below the cliffs,it uses the waste water from the city to move the cars up and down.  Most of the population speaks French as their first language, German is the second most common and Italian is the third – most people also speak English as well.
