Going Shopping

First day in Germany.  Moving on to plan A – getting over the jet lag.  Promptly, in accordance with the said plan we got up at 3:30 local time, which is well in line with local Edmonton time.  After a quick coffee and breakfast we managed to get out of the house for a quick trip to get some groceries at 8pm.  We set out to get some basic necessities of German cusine, one might say. I thought Costco was bulk crazy, but we soon discovered that Costco has nothing on Metro in terms of pricing and bulkiness.

For those serious enough about their martinis  I present you bulk vodka 10l for €75.00 no fancy packaging.  Then again after drinking a an inch of this no one is going to notice the packaging anyway.

Other goodies included pickled beets and sauerkraut  – we had to use Evelina here to get the sense of scale just right.  Both in 10kg and 11kg portions.

Beets Sauerkrauk

Finally no grocery shopping would be complete without some cheese, this block is 15kg and it goes for €75.00.  You can never have too much cheese.

15 kg of crazy cheese

Metro is absolutely crazy.  You can find everything there from Apple Computers to coffee machines to gas stoves and sashimi tuna to Pallegrino.  I think Metro will be our good friend for a while.
