The city is situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, 62 kilometres northeast of Geneva. Lausanne has a population of 146,372, making it the fourth largest city in Switzerland. Lausanne is a focus of international sport, hosting the International Olympic Committee, which recognizes the city as the “Olympic Capital”. Since 1994 the Court of Arbitration for Sport and some 55 international sport associations made their home in Lausanne. The city has a 28-station metro system, making it the smallest city in the world to have a rapid transit system. Unlike the roads in Lausanne that zig zag down the hill the metro runs straight up the hill almost like a funicular. Perhaps the most important and fun part of our trip to Lausanne was the fact that Eveliana spotted and got to pet a greyhound!!
