After last night it was slow going this morning but a race day awaits. Karen, Carlos and myself are going to carpool since they know where the good parking is but don’t feel like driving their little Lancia on the twisty Italian roads. We were informed that to have a chance of finding decent parking we should be in Monza no later than 9:30 am. Luckily we got there in time and got a great parking spot that will allow us to leave easily. The price of the parking spot has gone up by €5 since yesterday but it is a race day so that was expected. I decided to skip the filler races like the GT2 and GT3 and the Porsche Cup and have a walk around to see the track, to find the piece of the original oval and to see what other good spots there are to sit at. There is absolutely everything here, from entertainment and games to food and beer and espresso and merchandise and most of it, other than the actual F1 licensed gear is all very well priced. It is a scorching day out, so instead of sitting on the bleachers, walking around in the shade seems like a smart thing to do for the morning. Of course Red Bull is everyone in case people need a free energy boost.
All important, famous and rich people were shuttled to the race track in brand new Maseratis, all morning long a queue of roaring sedans brought them in. At about 12:35 the wealthy arrived, in their helicopters. At the back of the track behind the grand stands, there is a helicopter landing field that fits maybe 5o or 60 machines. It was like watching a beehive, with choppers lining up to land one after another, after another, after another. Then just as quickly as they landed the people were whisked away in shinny cars to their Paddock Club Access Seats or better. That is a lot of expansive toys….
