As it turns out the easiest place to ding parking in Switzerland is on a highway. 11 km into Switzerland I am stuck in a highway to nowhere. In 45 min I moved almost 1km. This should be fun. You know when this is going to be bad when people abandon their cars and go for a walk, and so the car hating Switzerland stereotype perpetuates. I so should have gone the long way around Treviso.
Ugh. To be fair the worst traffic jams we’ve been in were in Italy. Utterly infuriating, nobody abandoned their cars though – too hot. We *did* on our drive home from you guys last summer sit in a line up in northern Germany were people were out for walks and picnics. Nightmare.
I think no one ever gets anywhere fast in Switzerland. After 5 hours of driving I did just over 300 km, I was almost in tears. Luckily when I cleared Italy, Switzerland and Austria – Germany was far more kind to my sense of sanity. I am now convinced that a weekend trip to Switzerland could never happen for us – because it would require a weekend just to get there.
