The one Basilica to rule them all would be quite an understatement. There is really nothing in this world that can prepare you for the sheer magnificence of this place, or its gigantic proportions or it’s over the top splendour. We have seen our share of wonderful churches and cathedrals but nothing and I mean nothing comes even close to what this place is. This place truly is a house of god on earth, or rather a place where the Pope says the mass – because at the end of the day that is all that this place is. It’s basic function is not that much different than your average country chapel – a place of worship. This place just does it with that much more oomph! I am glad now that we stood in line to get into this place. We spent about an hour or so just walking around admiring the bewildering splendour of it all. This is a great piece of real-estate – it’s good to be the Pope!
This is amazing!
It truly was. Well worth the lineup and the wait. It is something that should be on everyone’s bucket list.
Continues to amaze me, with the exception of a few pics, it seems like you are photographing when it is closed to the public, so peaceful
Funny story that. The Basilica is full of people but I may have invited myself to some private choir performance at the back where no one was going. I did not stay for the performance but I did manage to snap a few cool pics. Alternatively I just stand there and wait for people to move away for that one picture opportunity! It seems to work most of the time.
