Here we go, the last drive on a beautiful summer morning – off to the train station.
One More Road Trip
I am setting off to Monza for F1. The Temple of Speed awaits..
Almost ….
Well the wheels are on. Now for a test drive and a bill and hopefully I can get on with it.
Conspiracy
Today at 8am I was set to go to Monza. Yesterday at 6:30 pm while driving home I thought the breaks were feeling funny. Since a lot of the drive there is through the Alps I decided to get them checked out this morning. As we speak the back brakes are getting replaced hopefully I […]
F1
After a lot of waiting, a lot of talking and a bit of planning this is finally happening. I am going to Monza to see F1 race this coming weekend. I am not sure what to expect, except for a lot of noise and testosterone around and a sea of red and yellow flags supporting […]
Homeless
Today, as of 11:34 am we are officially homeless in Nuremberg. The apartment keys have been returned, furniture moved out, cleaned and locked up. Goodbye Emilientstrasse 7 – we loved it there!
And Then
When it is all said and done, this is what nostalgia will look like. An evening out in Nuremberg on a beautiful summer’s day.
Imperial Invasion
At the Imperial Castle, in the lower gardens – I have no ideal what this is…. Red Bull is doing something in town this weekend, perhaps this Cos play has something to do with it.
Breakfast
I am officially on the threshold of packing vs clean up. This mining the last bit of shopping with a s quick stop for breakfast at our favourite cafe La Violetta.

Today, I think is the last shopping trip I will be making. Just a few small things we still need to bring home. I say small because there simply aren’t too many things we need and there is no room in the suitcases. I am already starting to miss this town. It is had to […]
First Time
Wow that has not happened on the blog before – we exceeded the bandwidth usage. The blog went through 10GB of bandwidth in 25 days – nice work people, keep it up.
The Art of Packing
This is how you get 12 suitcases and 2 bows into a car with room to spare. That is one very loaded car!! The drive should be fun..
11th Hour
We are at T – 15 hours before we pack the car and the family takes the train for the trip to Frankfurt. Family from Poland stops by for a quick visit to say hello! We send the kids off to town in the early afternoon to visit at least one museum, and to have as much […]
Insanity Continues
This again will be filled under “Christ what were we thinking” category which is the predominant theme of ours when we go out to eat. After a wonderful dinner at the Golden Horn we rolled out of the restaurant, and rolled down the hill from the castle side, across the main square and to 4D our favourite […]
Farewell Dinner
Tonight we are seeing Volker and Kasia for the last time on this trip. It is largely because of them that we are here, it is because of them that this trip has been such an amazing journey and it if was not for their help with everything we would most likely speak a bit […]
Around Nuremberg
It is Saturday today which means it is our last chance to go to the shops and buy anything we still might need. Our goal for today was to get some suitcases and a poster tube. We did not find a suitcase we liked, we forgot about the poster tube but we bought a few […]
Home at Last
After a busy and eventful day we are finally home, a bit later than we thought and tired but home at last!
Nuremberg to Odense
The morning drive, for the most part in Germany, was quite foggy. The roads were not too busy so the drive was nice. The afternoon was very sunny which made the latter part of Germany and Denmark a pleasant driver as well.
Vacation Time
Right then, we are setting off on our last holiday on this trip so we will make it a proper one this time around. This is the only holiday which we actually planned months ago, booked hotels months ago and got it all planned out – all months ago. We are all looking forward to it. […]
Friends
We don’t get to see Volker and Kasia very often. Kasia is always either in Vienna or Warsaw and we are almost never here on the weekends. Today we finally got to sit down with both of them for a nice meal on the balcony. The kids, all 3 of them, were not interested in hanging […]
Music Festival
Our city is playing host to World Music Festival. The entire old town is filled with stages, musicians, buskers, visitors, people and in true German fashion a lot of beer and sausage stands. There appears to be more people here than there was for the Christmas market. It is warm, the atmosphere is great and […]
Bob and Margaret
Our family is departing today. This is the fourth time we see Anna’s cousin on this trip. Because we were always tricked into speaking Polish with them, we decided to give them all an English names and just spoke English to them this time around, for the most part anyway. Today they are setting off to […]
Orangery and Garden
The Residenz Ansbach has a massive garden and an Orangery which today serve as a backdrop for concerts and music festivals. A garden was first mentioned in the 16th century in the herbal accounts of Leonhart Fuchs. Between 1723 and 1750, it was designed as a Baroque garden. Severely damaged during World War II, it […]
St. Johannis
The church St. Johannis (St. John) in Ansbach in Middle Franconia is a Lutheran parish church and a concert venue of the Bachwoche Ansbach. The parish was first mentioned in documents in 1139. It was given by the Bishop of Würzburg to St. Gumbertus. Construction began in the second decade of the 15th century. The church […]
St. Gumbertus
The church St. Gumbertus is one of the central city churches of Ansbach, together with the neighboring St. Johannis. Located in the old town of Ansbach, St. Gumbertus, now a Lutheran church, was originally the church of a monastery that was founded by St. Gumbert around 750. Today it serves as a venue for concerts and […]
Ansbach
Today we set off to Ansbach which is about 40km from Nuremberg. Ansbach is the capital of the administrative region of Middle Franconia with about 45,000 people living in the city. The city started off in the 8th century as a Benedictine monastery, it later became the seat of the Hohenzollern family in 1331. Later […]
Alfa Romeo
We bought our car last year July 19th. It has now been a year since we owned it. We don’t drive the car in the city, sometimes we don’t drive it for a week, sometimes we drive it once a week just to the store. Most of the travel we do is when we take […]
Celebration
Truth be told we did not have a lot of time to celebrate Germany’s win of the FIFA World Cup. We finished watching the game, we grabbed out suitcases and went downstairs to catch the cab to the airport. The city has gone absolutely mad. I am glad we were going to the airport and […]
World Cup Craziness
Germany has gone crazy! We can’t think of a better place to be right now than here in Nuremberg, Germany. Everyone is celebrating, no one is getting any sleep – people are going absolutely crazy!!!! What a party this is going to be!!!
GAME ON
The world pauses as the whistle blows – the game between Germany and Argentina is on. We are all glued to the TV cheering for Germany of course, our home away from home. Boris even decorated our home a bit to get into the spirit of things! GO Germany GO!!
Around Wurzburg
For a small city, Wurzburg like a lot of other small cities in Europe we have visited, has a lot of offer. It is a vibrant city with great history, amazing sites and friendly and hospitable people. We spent two great days here and if we could we would be back again in a heartbeat.
Meanwhile in Wurzburg
It is summer! No matter where we go there is a bachelor or bachelorette party. Evelina got to participate in one when we were in Wurzburg today. The premise of these parties is as follows. The bride or groom to be is the object of constant ridicule in public as his entourage is getting drunk. He […]
Wurzburg Gardens
We are back at the Wurzburg Residence for a stroll around the gardens. When we were here last time a lot of flowers were being planed or just coming out of the ground. Today all flowers are in full bloom as are trees and shrubs and just about everything else that grows. There were a […]
Marienberg Fortress Wurzburg
We are back to Wurzburg. There are a few things we did not get to see on our first visit here and since the city is so beautiful, the weather is great and we have time before our holidays we drove out for a second look. Marienberg Fortress is a prominent landmark on the Main […]
The Sun is Out
Finally after two days of rain the sun is out and it is instantly humid and hot. We are out for a lazy stroll around the city, a bit of shopping, a bit of sitting around and doing nothing and a bit of beer to cool off. We are going to miss this city, in […]
Museum of Industrial Culture
It is still raining a bit which is not a big deal because there are still a number of museums which we are planning to visit. Today we are setting off to visit the Museum of Industrial Culture. The museum is not very huge and it has a bit of everything in it, none of which is in […]
It’s Raining It’s Pouring
I think today is the coldest day of the summer. It is about 14C and it has been raining steadily for the last 9 hours. Our family from Warsaw is here visiting us again. Because of the rain and the cold we are keeping our entertainment to the indoors. On the agenda, once again, is […]
World Cup
Today is a big game – Germany vs. Ghana. We have set up a soirée with Kasia and Volker to watch the game in German at their house. We started off with a nice dinner and some wine then more vine and some desserts. Everyone has World Cup fever and we are not different. It was […]
Back in Town
We are back in town from our trip across Italy. Today we are getting out to see Kasia and Volker. Kasia is so involved in the metro project in Warsaw that we almost never get to see her. We have a bit more luck with Volker who works only a short walk away from us. […]
Germany – Austria – Italy
We are determined to still get some pool time in Arezzo today so we have left early – just a bit after 7am. We have about 900km to drive which should take about 8 hours. Austria is slow to drive through it is basically all dug out with massive construction everywhere plus on the best […]
Happy Anniversary
Happy Anniversary to Kasia and Volker. We are out celebrating their 17th Wedding Anniversary today. Kasia and Volker suggested we go to one of their favourite restaurants just outside Nuremberg. Once again we did not manage to get all the pictures of the food for the blog but we did manage to get the desserts into […]
Heat Wave
It is hot! Depending which application you look at on the phone it is somewhere between 32C-36C. Even in the shade by the water it is hot, hot, hot. Even after 3 scoops of great gelato, it is still hot, so we are off to the city beach. The city beach is in the […]
Back to Pottenstein
Girls’s day out today is in Pottenstein. Evelina’s best friends Lisa is at our house for a sleepover. These two girls really hit it off at school and have been great friends. Today is Lisa’s turn to stay at our house. As a little treat and for a bit of a break we drove to a […]
St Martha’s On Fire
Not far from where we live, right across Dunkin’ Donuts and St. Klara church used to be St Martha’s church that was undergoing extensive renovations. We never got to see this church inside and now it looks like we won’t. It appears that durning the renovations, the roof being the only flammable thing on the church caught […]
Calm
After less than a stellar day behind the wheel yesterday today we are back to travelling on foot – true and tested. It looks like there might be a thunderstorm later on today so we are getting out for gelato early. These are some of the beautiful homes on the same street where we live, […]
Citizen P
If I don’t hear Embassy and Munich in the same sentence ever again it will not be a moment too soon. Today we set off to pick up kids’ passports at the Polish Embassy. Munich is about 180km away – door to door, from our house to the embassy and this we can usually manage […]
Tiergarten
Today we had 3 entertainment options on the table. City Park which we still have not been to, inside tour of the Imperial Castle or the Nuremberg Zoo, overwhelmingly the kids decided on the Zoo. The Zoo is located in Nuremberg Reichswald, which is an old imperial oak forest, southeast of the old town. With an area […]
Experiences
Earlier this week it was no flight for you! Today an earthquake. Technically, I think it was a tremor but since we never experienced one we are calling it an earthquake. Boris and Evelina were getting ready to go to the old town while we were sitting and relaxing like we do most of the days, […]

Hard Core
Fearless exploration comes at a price. This is a simple account of the last 7 days of our trips starting with Wurzburg. Seven days of aimless wondering around different cities and Nuremberg of course – fueled largely by gelato twice a day and a few sausages here and there!
