Close to the underground movie theatres is the public library. Today, on the way back from the Altstadtfest, we circled around the library to get signed up. The service is free, you are allowed to keep stuff for 4 weeks and if you are late the penalty is € 0.10/week for each late item. There is […]
Altstadtfest
Another weekend and another festival. We have two festivals going at the moment, this one and Volks Festival. Just another excuse to get out, eat, drink and wonder around.
City Museum Fembohaus
Nuremberg’s only remaining large late Renaissance merchant’s house shows a brief history of Nuremberg. It’s modern and sleek and newly opened. The building is still undergoing a major renovation on the outside but the inside is ready to explore. One of the best exhibits here and the starting point of the tour is a […]
Only Lyon
We are exploring Lyon, the second largest city in France after Paris. The city is equally as busy and beautiful and charming as Paris. From Roman times to modern times there is bit of of something for everyone here. We managed to see both rivers, and a few churches, the opera house, the Roman ruins, […]
Nuremberg Details
With the whole family here we do a lot of walking around, not just to get ice cream either. We keep going around and finding new things to explore and look at.
The Rest of Munich
We finished the tour of Munich in the old town. After some sight seeing and a nice dinner we left for Nuremberg at 9:30 on the train.
Exploring Nuremberg
We are still exploring this great little city
Exploring Old Town
A lazy Sunday. With Kozluk family here for a visit, we set out to show off bits and pieces of this great city starting with the old town and a couple of its main churches. Both of these churches were greatly damaged in the war and rebuilt but what they have in common is a […]
Evening Stroll
When the night is this beautiful – its hard to resist going out to the old town for a little stroll. We did exactly that, a nice walk to get some ice-cream in the old town.
By The Canal
Tourist trap heaven, but if you know where to look – you can find a nice slingshot which is naturally what Evelina bought!
Gdansk – Mariacka
On the other side of the great old town buildings is a narrow little street called ul. Mariacka. The street is lined on both sides with artisan shoppes where you can find all sorts of amber and silver jewellery and pretty much everything else made out of amber which in Gdansk is king. In one […]
Gdansk – Old Town
A stroll down ul. Dluga. It still is as beautiful as I remember it – less the 50,000 Zywiec umbrellas littering the street on both sides. We could not ask for better weather, with sun and a bit of breeze this was a beautiful day to explore the old town of Gdansk.
Going Back
So after almost 30 years I am back in the city I grew up in. While a lot has changed it here, not much really did. In the end it is really all a matter of perspective. What seemed bright, huge and wonderful as I remembered it, is now aged, dull and all plastered in […]
Bamberg
Bamberg’s historic city center is a listed UNESCO world heritage site. Sometimes, the locals refer to it as the German Venice. This truly is a beautiful little town with charming streets and shops, and two magnificent churches, set on two opposite hills. We only spent a few hours here to get a quick look at […]
Something to say
It seems that every time we turn around there is a demonstration somewhere protesting this that or the other. Today, on the demonstration agenda are the dolphins at the Nuremburg Zoo. I have to say that we much preferred the noise of the kilted musicians to the bells and chanting of the dolphin parade. After […]
Lazise
Lazise is a small port town with a great castle dating back to late 800s. Like most old European towns this one too has a small beautiful square a nice old church, Saint Nicolò, dating back to 1200s and beautiful painted houses. Of course the lake is the dominant feature of this little municipality so we try […]
Nuremberg at night
A quick dinner and out for ice cream. Nightlife in the old town.
Evening Stroll
After dinner its ice cream time, and what better place to have it than the old town.
Around Nuremberg
After the beer fest, and the walk around the castle grounds, we walked some more around the old town before going home. Every time it seems we get out for a stroll we find new and interesting things to look at and take in. Good times.
Castle Gardens
After some fun in the moat at the beer festival we went for a walk around the castle gardens and then the old town. It actually did not rain – unbelievable.
Festival Fun
Germans love their beer – that much is true. We don’t, but we try an occasional sip or two. Kids on the other hand can just run on beer fumes.
Half a meter of experience.
Many of you might be thinking that this adventure of ours is all fun and games, and you would be right for the most part but… In order to give you the best and the most immersive and realistic impression of this trip we face a huge burden of having to try and test as […]
Bierfest
Today is, if you are a god-fearing folk, a Happy Cadaver Day, literal translation in German. This means it’s a holiday and everything is closed except churches and beer gardens, both of which are open for business and will gladly take your money. Since we don’t drink beer, but have been to church before, we […]
Plock
Our relentless pursuit of the required documents continues. Sometimes I think it would have been easier to find a Yeti in the Himalayas than to get the right stamp on the correct piece of paper in the Bureaucratic Republic of Poland. Undaunted we forge ahead. Today we set out to Plock, the last place where […]
Pottenstein – The Village
After a bit of fun and exploration we sat down for a piece of traditional plum cake and a cup of coffee in the village just below the castle. Great atmosphere, great views and beautiful weather.
Nuremberg – Around Town
We headed out to get a hair dryer and after searching far and wide, in one electronics’ store, Saturn, we found what we needed. Then a quick stroll around the old town for a pretzel sandwich. You heard it right, a giant pretzel cut in half and stuffed with a whole whack of goodies, from […]
Munich – Old Town Tour
While the Polish Consulate in Munich was a huge disappointment, or preformed as expected, the rest of the city was a treat. We were expecting to spent good 2 to 3 hours waiting to see the Consul but with this option out of the way there was simply more time to explore the city. […]
Disturbance in the Force
While wondering around town we stumbled upon this lovely bunch. The whole cast was well represented and from the looks of it – Darth Vader was well surrounded. Its amazing what one can do with a bit of yarn and some traffic posts.
Nuremberg – Old Town
Today we had a chance to get out and see the old town. We had a quick stop over at Volker’s office, a nice lunch with some friends and off we went to get our to do list out of the way. Passport photos, laptop connectors, and lots and lots of pretzels to eat. Most […]
