Tiergarten

Today we had 3 entertainment options on the table.  City Park which we still have not been to, inside tour of the Imperial Castle or the Nuremberg Zoo, overwhelmingly the kids decided on the Zoo.  The Zoo is located in Nuremberg Reichswald, which is an old imperial oak forest, southeast of the old town. With an area of 170 acres is it one of the largest Zoo in Europe famed for its large natural enclosures. There are approximately 300 animal species at the zoo and about 1 million people per year who visit it.   The original Nuremberg Zoo was located where the Really Grounds are now and was relocated to the Imperial Forrest in May 1939.    To us this place is very reminiscent to the Zoo in Portland Oregon, but with even more large trees providing cool shade on a hot summer’s day.  Like any other Germany attraction, you are free to bring your own food and beer and enjoy it at the Zoo.  If you chose not to bring your own food and drink  you can buy a family lunch for €10.00.  Fun times and no parking anywhere.

What an awesome looking zoo!! The gorilla (silverback??) looks huge. I’m very jealous. The Valley Zoo is so small and Calgary Zoo seems to pale in comparison too.

I have to say that we really like the Calgary Zoo but on a hot day it is hard to see it all, here you can walk all day long and always find shade under the huge sprawling oaks. It is quite wonderful I have to say.
